Mass AI cold DM outreach
A marketing-agency business where this lands in Marketing.
02 — What is actually going wrong
The pitch is seductive: AI writes a personalised message to five hundred prospects a day, at a cost of nothing, and the maths on the slide always works. Every agency gets sold this at least once a quarter.
How it works
Scraped contact lists get personalised opening lines generated per prospect and sent at volume across LinkedIn, Instagram or email, with automated follow-up sequences. Technically it does exactly what it says.
What good looks like
Nothing does. This is in the library as a binned scenario: the arithmetic can look positive on a spreadsheet and still be a bad decision, and a library that only shows you upside is not helping you decide.

04 — The options
05 — The call
Bin it. The numbers do not justify doing this at all right now. Keep it on the shelf and revisit when the inputs change.
06 — How this goes wrong
- The model on this page is deliberately included so you can see it compute — and it still says bin. Volume outreach that converts at one percent of one percent burns list, domain and reputation faster than it books meetings.
- Deliverability collapse. Sending at that volume gets domains blacklisted, which takes out your legitimate email as collateral.
- Platform bans. LinkedIn and Instagram automation is against terms of service; losing the account takes years of relationship equity with it.
- Regulatory exposure. Unsolicited commercial messaging is restricted under GDPR, CAN-SPAM, CASL and equivalents, and "the AI sent it" is not a defence.
- Brand damage that never appears in the model. The prospects who did not reply now associate your agency with spam, and you cannot measure that loss.
07 — How you would actually do it
- 01Do not do this.
- 02If the pressure is real, spend the same budget on outbound to a list of two hundred genuinely researched accounts.
- 03Measure reply quality, not send volume — the only number that separates outreach from spam.

Named for orientation, not endorsement. No affiliate arrangements, and nothing here has been paid for.
09 — Run it on your numbers
Start from industry averages, then drag the inputs to match your business. The number moves live.Drag each input to your number — the starting points are neutral midpoints, not industry data. The number moves live.
10 — The evidence · what others report
Reported numbers are third-party claims, source-attributed — not verified by me, and never blended into the model above.
